The 52nd Georgia Volunteer Infantry Company I is a family just as the original members were when they marched miles from their homes in Georgia to confront an enemy that was invading their homeland. Here, as a family, we mourn the loss of our dear friend Tommy Varner who crossed over the river and went to rest under the shade of the trees on February 12, 2009. Tommy was a member of so many circles of friends and families that there are far too many to list. He marched, fought and had a great time all over the country and he never met a stranger while he was doing it. Tommy will be greatly missed by our unit and many others, he was truly one of a kind. "Just Give me a Minute."

Some Memories of Tommy .
McDowell several years ago, campaigner event, very cold. Only man I've ever heard who could snore and shiver at the same time. Froze all night low 30's with a 20 mph wind, awakened at 5:00 A.M., formed ranks marched to Singleton Hill. Standing in the predawn darkness cold, hungry, sleepy and tired and he turns to me and say's "God I love this". Put's a smile on your face when you remember him at those times and all the other good times.
Now lets all shoot some YB's at Resaca. Terry Chadwick, Blue Ridge Mess
Tommy liked to carry on and have a good time everywhere he went. For the last several years every where we went I'd start in on him about his many mail boxes or something else as soon as I laid eyes on him. Everytime he'd say, "Damn I ain't even here good yet and yer already given' me hell" then he'd laugh and put his arm around me. He would brighten things up as soon as he got there.
